Youth Weekend 2005

Thirty young people between the ages of 11 and 17 stayed at Viney Hill Christian Adventure Centre near Lydney on the edge of the Forest of Dean.  It happened over the weekend of 14th - 16th October 2005.

What a weekend it was!  Awesome Activities, Fab Food, Wonderful Worship (ok enough of the alliteration!), Night Hike, Bat Hunt (more on that later!), BBQ and Bonfire!

Activities included:

We also looked at the story of the Prodigal Son, throughout the weekend we explored the story and its meaning through different ways including doing a drama and watching a video.

Other activities on the weekend were a Night Hike, the centre is located on the edge of the Forest of Dean and the back gate of the centre leads straight on to the forest.  The photos below were taken during the Night Hike.

The Bat Hunt was introduced by Professor Wolfenstein and his research associate Gunter von Brotwurst  (both leading authorities on the Lesser spotted Bavarian Fruit bat!) who enlisted the help of crack teams of British Bat Hunters who dedicated themselves to combing the Forest surrounding the activity centre for around 500 of the lesser spotted fruit bats!  They were also on the lookout for the rare and highly prized (and therefore worth more points) Greater spotted Bavarian Fruit bat.  It was estimated that only about 6 of these shy bats were in the area.  Following a detailed search the team who managed to collect the most points won the competition.  Gunter's celebratory dance for those teams finding the Greater spotted Fruit Bat will live long in the memory!
